Mildred (Whitehead) Grimes, 85, of New Bedford died Monday March 9, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of the late John Grimes.
Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Thomas and Caroline Whitehead, she lived most of her life in Dartmouth and New Bedford.
Mrs. Grimes was a loving mother and housewife who spent the majority of her working career in the health care industry. She was the former housemother of the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing.
Millie was an avid and devoted bingo player and was beloved among the southeastern bingo community. She also enjoyed "Wednesdays", cookouts in the courtyard, and her trips to South Carolina.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce R. Grimes and his wife Theresa, and Timothy J. Grimes and his wife Shelly; three daughters, Susan C. Loranger and her husband Leo, Tracey Torres and her husband David, and Cheryl A. Cabral; a son -in-law, David Cabral; eight grandchildren, Christine, Kelley, Ben, Stephanie, Beth, Katie, Erik, and Nick; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kylie, Ben Jr., Sean, Mason, Sam, Liliana, and Maxine; and in-laws, Mabel Whitehead and John and Shirley Rebello.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-7 PM, prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
