TEWKSBURY - Robert J. Stokowski, 75, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Jan. 5, at SaintsMemorial Medical Center in Lowell. He was the husband of Patricia A. (McCool) Stokowski,with whom he had celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary this past June 12th.
He was born in Denmark, Maine, September 9, 1926, the son of the late Heronim and Anastasia(Kozak) Stokowski. He was raised in West Lynn, and graduated from Lynn Classical HighSchool. He had lived in Tewksbury for the past 46 years.
During WWII, he served in the US Army, European Theater, and was awarded a Purple HeartMedal.
Upon discharge from the Army, he attended Salem State Teachers College, and matriculated toBoston University, where he earned a B.S. degree. He taught school in Thomaston, Maine, andlater, was a substitute teacher at Tewksbury Memorial High School.
He worked for the Postal Transportation System, which was absorbed by the U.S. Postal Service,as a clerk and expediter for over 42 years, having retired in 1992.
He was extremely active in the Tewksbury and Middlesex County 4-H, serving as a club leaderfor more than 20 years, as a member of the Board of Directors for the Middlesex County 4-H Fairfor more than 15 years, and was an Honorary Member of the 4-H Fair Board of Directors.
He was an active communicant of the Holy Trinity Polish Church in Lowell.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia A. Stokowski, PhD,of So. Burlington, VT, Elizabeth A. and her husband Paul Dubrawski of Abington, one son, MarkE. Stokowski of Tewksbury, one sister, Frances Martino of TX, four grandchildren, Mark R. andEric E. Stokowski, and Abigail E. and Adam R. Dubrawski, one sister-in-law, Joan McCool ofTewksbury, and one brother-in-law, Edward McCool of MD.
He was also father of the late Robert J. Stokowski Jr. and Joan E. Stokowski.
His FuneralMass was held Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Holy Trinity Polish Church. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
