Mary M. Granfield, 86, passed away on March 6th, 2009 at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester after suffering from a long illness. She was born in Boston on May 29th, 1922 to her parents Alexander and Mary (Torpey) Granfield. Mary has been a life long resident of Medford. For several years, she worked as an Assistant City Clerk for the City of Medford. She cherished the friendships she made while working at city hall. She also served as a secretary at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Medford, serving five pastors from the time of Fr. Golding to Fr. O’Brien. Mary gave many hours of her time as a member of the Ladies Sodality and also acted as a spiritual leader for the young ladies who were members of the Legion of Mary and the Girl Scouts at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She enjoyed many happy memories visiting her cousins in County Waterford, Ireland each summer. Mary was the sister of Edward Granfield of Medford, Patrick Granfield of Melrose and the late John, Joseph, Alexander Jr., William and Thomas Granfield. She was the sister-in-law of Eleanor Granfield of Arlington, Carol Granfield of Stoneham and Priscilla Granfield of Melrose. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Tuesday March 10th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday March 9th from 4-8 PM.
