Obituary

William “David” Gioiosa, 60, passed away on March 5, 2009 at Brockton Hospital from complications arising from multiple sclerosis. David received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Mathematics from Stonehill College and he had a variety of interests. He drove an oil tanker in the Army Reserves, and he loved working on his cars and motorcycle at home. David was also a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Brockton Welfare Office, and was very proud of the work he did. He enjoyed coin collecting, his telescopes, and animals. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. David lived independently with multiple sclerosis for several years at Caffrey Towers in Brockton, and spent his last few months at Braemoor Rehabilitation Center, where he made many friends. David displayed great courage and determination throughout the thirty five year progression of his disease.
David will be missed by his mother Jane Gioiosa, his sisters Mary and Nancy Gioiosa, nieces and nephews Lisa, Melissa, Brian and Craig, and aunts and cousins. He will join his beloved father Albert Gioiosa, sister Martha Swanson, and niece Jennifer in peace.
Visiting hours will be held at the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday 3-6 p.m. The Funeral will be from the Conley Funeral Home Monday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central New England Chapter, PO Box 845945, Boston, MA 02284-5945.
