Thomas M. Barry, 76, of Mansfield passed away on Friday March 6, 2009 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (McFee) Barry.
Born in Beverly, MA on October 18, 1932 he was a son of the late Thomas F. and Margaret M. (Vigars) Barry.
He grew up in Beverly, was educated in Beverly public schools and was a 1951 graduate of Beverly High School.
Upon graduation from high school Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he faithfully served his country for 20 years. He served during the Korean Conflict and during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1971 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After serving in the Marines Mr. Barry worked as a Collector for Boston Edison for over 20 years before retiring. A resident of Mansfield for the past 37 he had formerly made his home in Newport, R.I.
A parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield Tom was an avid an avid golfer and was a member of the Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands golf courses on Cape Cod. He was a true sports enthusiast, baseball being his favorite and he enjoyed being a Little League Coach in Mansfield where he watched his sons participate and had fun coaching them.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted sons Robert A. Barry and his wife Deborah of North Attleboro, Brian E. Barry and his wife Cheryl of East Bridgewater and Sean T. Barry and his wife Lisa of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Margaret Murray of Beverly and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Thomas Barry and Ryan Barry both of North Attleboro, Brianna Barry and Nicholas Barry both of East Bridgewater and Matthew Barry, Michael Barry and Jack Barry all of Mansfield and also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday March 10th at 9:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Military honors will be held at the conclusion of services.
Burial will be held privately at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 9th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
