William J. Carroll, 87 years old, a lifelong resident of the Greater Lowell area, died Tuesday evening at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford. He was the husband of Phyllis C. (Baraby) Carroll of Chelmsford, formerly of Lowell, who survives him.
Born in Lowell on March 6, 1921, he was a son of the late William P. and Rita J. (McMahon) Carroll. He received his education in the Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Mr. Carroll also attended the former Lowell Technological Institute.
During World War II, Mr. Carroll served his Country in the United States Army. For over thirty years, Mr. Carroll worked at the former Martin’s Clothing Store in downtown Lowell where he served as the Store’s manager. He also served for five years in the City of Lowell Election Commission Office. Mr. Carroll was a member of both Longmeadow and Vesper Country Clubs and a member of Saints Medical Center’s Men’s Guild. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters in law, William P. Carroll and his wife Margaret of Lynnfield and Robert A. Carroll and his wife Clare of Dracut; a daughter and son in law, Donna M. Semekis and her husband George of Westford; seven grandchildren, Harley A. Simeone, William P. Carroll III, Abigail C. Carroll, Erin E. Taff, Shannon K. Taff, Philip R. Carroll and Daniel J. Carroll; two great grand daughters, Alexa S. Carroll and Laina M. Taff; a brother, Donald Carroll of Lowell; one sister, Mildred Brophy of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Louise Swanson.
CARROLL- Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, March 8, from 2 until 5 pm at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST. (Rte.38). His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday March 9 at 11 am at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury. Arrangements are by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LOWELL.
