WORCESTER____William A. Schmidt, 76, of University Commons, 378 Plantation St., died Wednesday June 4 in University Commons.
He leaves a brother, Alexander H. Schmidt of Cape Cod; and many nephews and nieces. His longtime companion, Ann A. Burinsky of Worcester died December 25, 2002. He was born in Worcester, son of Fritz and Marie (Kindermann) Schmidt and lived here most of his life.
Mr. Schmidt was a union boilermaker 42 years with local 29, Quincy and retired several years ago. He was a skilled and qualified welder and mechanic.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a seaman second class.He was a member of Local 29, Quincy.
Mr. Schmidt enjoyed fishing but most of all enjoyed traveling around New England with his longtime friend, Ann.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday June 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St. A service will be conducted during calling hours. Burial will be private in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Marfan Foundation, 382 Main St., Port Washington, N.Y., 11050.
