Pete Martin, 76, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Irwin County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, March 7 at Frank Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Ed McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Martin was born November 18, 1932 in Irwin County to the late Ed M. and Lucile Moore Martin. He was a farmer and lived in the Irwin County all of his life. He was a 1950 graduate of Ocilla High School and member of the Gideons. He grew produce on his farm and loved to share with others. Mr. Martin was a member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir, former song leader and former superintendent of Bible study. He served on the Board of Directors of Camp Hillview and was past President of the Irwin County Band Boosters.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ella Jim Martin of Ocilla; sons and daughters-in- law, Alan and Sharon Martin and Lee and Holli Martin of Ocilla;daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn and Jackie Bracewell of Ocilla; grandchildren: Missy and Taylor Paris, Nathan, Morgan, Spencer, and Peyton Martin, Shane and Laura Bracewell; brother, Franklin “Buck” Martin, Ocilla and sisters, Louise Turner of Metter, Ga. and Janie (Ortiz) Harper of Ocilla and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ora Waller.
