Mildred “Millie” Barfield Bates, 68, of North Charleston, widow of Jack K. Bates died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Trident Medical Center.
The graveside services for Millie and Jack will be held this morning at 11 o’clock at Carolina Memorial Park, North Charleston.
Millie was born May 27, 1940 in Lanes, SC, daughter of the late Joseph Pinckney Barfield and Travis Gibbons Barfield. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School. She enjoyed talking on the telephone and spending time with her family and friends. Millie and Jack spent a lot time at Applebee’s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Goose Creek and she retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

1 son: Billy Calcutt (Melissa) of Summerville
1 daughter: Frances Gard (Brian) of Maryville, TN
6 grandchildren: Michael Calcutt, Donnie Calcutt, Krista Shortt and Rebekah Calcutt all of Summerville, Le Groves of Camp Lejeune, NC and Kathryn Gard of Maryville, TN
Brothers: J.P. Barfield (Katherine) of Summerville, Edward Barfield (Leslie Ann) of Utah, Willie Barfield (Lona) of Arkansas and Benny Ray Barfield of Columbia, SC.
Sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Louise Calcutt of Goose Creek and Johnny Bates of Hollywood, SC.
