Jack Kenneth Bates, 73, of North Charleston, husband of Millie Barfield Bates, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Trident Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11 o’clock at Carolina Memorial Park, North Charleston.
Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o’clock Thursday evening.
Mr. Bates was born June 20, 1935 in Winder, Georgia, son of the late Harvey Statum Bates and Pauline Thompson Bates. He was a graduate of Chicora High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing and watching football games. He retired as a Route Sales Rep and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Goose Creek.

1 daughter: Frances Gard of Maryville, TN
6 grandchildren: Michael Calcutt, Donnie Calcutt, Krista Shortt, Rebekah Calcutt all of Summerville, Le Groves of Camp Lejeune, NC and Kathryn Gard of Maryville, TN.
1 brother: John W. Bates of Hollywood, SC
Nephews: Scott Bates of Moncks Corner, David Bates of Huger and William Bates of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
