Bristol- Mrs. Mary R. Strickland, age 90, passed away Wednesday, March 04, 2009 at her residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia after an extended illness. She was a native of Hortense, living the past 57 years in Bristol. She was a loving mother and grandmother; and was a member of Ritch Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters: Joe Ann Poole and Eleanor Strickland of Jesup; Goldie Hodge of Lizella and Sylvia Strickland of Bristol; three sons: Robert Strickland of Jesup, Dwight Strickland of Lizella, and Johnny Strickland of Forsyth; two sisters: Vera Landon of Blackshear and Bertie Lee Pearson of Nahunta; two brothers: Dorsey Roberson of Waycross and Virgil Roberson of Hortense; twenty-three grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Ritch Baptist Church with Reverend Shawn Cunningham and Reverend R. C. Mathis officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hortense Cemetery.
Mrs. Strickland’s body will lie in state one hour prior to the service Friday morning at Ritch Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
Active Pallbearers will be Darrell Wasdin, Dale Poole, Chris Strickland, Stephen Strickland, Johnny Campbell and Heath Chestnut.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Hospice of South Georgia.
