Maggie Lou White Bowen, 88, of Tifton died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Sandhill Methodist Church Cemetery in Telfair County. Rev. Chris Ramsey will officiate with burial to follow in Sandhill Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Bowen was born on April 6, 1920 in Telfair County and was the daughter of Jim White and Mary Waldrop White, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Haig Bowen, Sr. She was retired from the City of Tifton Police Department, where she worked as meter maid from February 1, 1958 to June 30, 1985 and a school crossing guard at Annie Belle Clark Elementary School for many years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tifton.
Ms. Bowen is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Carol Bowen of Tifton and Don and Mary Ellen Bowen of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tom Burton of Douglas; her grandchildren, Paul and Heather Morgan, Abbey Bowen and Van Bowen, Stephanie Burton, Stacey Burton, Shannon Burton and Samantha Burton; her great grandchildren, Ava Morgan and Gillie Morgan; one sister, Mrs. Roy Jackson, Sr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
