Ruth M. (Anthony) Curtis, 88 of Medway died March 1 in Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Francis W. Curtis who died in 1990.
Born in Somerville, May 18, 1920, the daughter of the late Angus and Leah (Copeland) Anthony, Mrs. Curtis had lived in Medway for most of her life.
She was a 1936 graduate of Medway High School.
Mrs. Curtis had been the Senior Coordinator for the Medway Elders for many years before retiring. She had previously worked in the cafeteria at Dean Jr. College.
Mrs. Curtis also taught guitar.
Helping other‘s what a large part of Mrs. Curtis life. She had been a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader in Medway She had also been the director of the Girl Scout camp on Adams Street in Medway for many years.
She had been a driver for the FISH program, entertained with her guitar at nursing homes, prisons, and Veterans Hospital’s and had taught crafts to the handicapped and developmentally challenged in the surrounding area.
Mrs. Curtis had been a volunteer in the nurse’s office of the Medway elementary schools and had worked as a census taker and election poll worker in Medway.
Mrs. Curtis had been a long and active member of the Rosalie Rebekah Lodge in Medway. She held numerous positions in the lodge and was the past President of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Rebekah’s, a position that took her to Lodges throughout the nation.
Mrs. Curtis loved to go camping and to play and listen to music.
She is survived by her children, Frank S. Curtis and his wife, Ellen of Citrus Springs, Florida, Charlene Coakley and her husband, Bob of Medway and Kathleen Mueller and her husband, Rick of Madison, New Hampshire.
She was the sister of the late Fred, Arthur and Charles Anthony and Margie Havilland and Winifred Cottam.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tammy Reed of Medway, Cheri Richards of Standish, Maine, Mark Henschel of Lovell, Maine, Braden Curtis of Exeter, NH and Melissa Berio of Middleboro. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 4 in the Medway Village Church at 10:00 a.m.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
