John Gomes, 81, of New Bedford died February 27, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in Wareham, the son of the late Antone and Marion (Gomes) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was formerly employed by Ocean Spray for over 30 years until his retirement.
Mr. Gomes served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a brother, Manuel Gomes; a sister, Anna Mendes; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a godson.
He was the brother of the late Antone, James, Lucy and Dominga Gomes, Mary Rosario, Jenny Gonsalves and Ida Monteiro.
John did so much for so many and will be dearly missed.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 4th at 12 Noon in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. His family will receive guests on Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 Noon prior to his service. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
