Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Marion L. (Clark) Lovett, 80, wife of the late Peter A. Lovett, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester after a long battle against multiple health challenges.
She was born on December 3, 1928 to the late Walter F. and Doris M. (Perry) Clark. She shared 44 years of marriage with Peter, who passed away on the same date 15 years ago (Feb. 26, 1994).
Marion, a homemaker and lifelong resident of Gloucester, will be best remembered for her sense of humor, especially through failing health. She was an avid reader and grammarian. As a senior at Gloucester High School, she was an editor of the school’s literary magazine, “The Beacon.” She was also a member of the French Club and the girls’ drill team and was voted “Class Wit.” She was very proud to have earned a Sawyer Medal. She was a past Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls, and as a member of St. John’s Church, she sang in the choir for 26 years.
She is survived by three sons, Gary C. and his wife, Lola Lovett, Dale E. and his wife, Maria Lovett and David P. Lovett, a daughter, Susan M. Lovett, all of Gloucester. She is also survived by five granddaughters, Debi Lovett, Jennifer and Michelle Lovett, and Nichole Studer and Elizabeth Lovett, all of Gloucester, a sister, Janet Cooney, sister-in-law, Harriet Maffei, wife of Victor and 4 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces, and a nephew. In addition, she also leaves behind her lifelong friend, Betty Elwell.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Gloucester is being planned. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, St. John’s Episcopal Church. 48 Middle St., Gloucester, VNA Care Network, 5 Federal St., Danvers or Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers.
