Obituary

Mary J. (Salem) Culhane, a lifelong resident of Boston's South End, passed away Friday February 27, 2009 at the age of 94.
Born in Boston in 1914, Mary graduated Boston Girls' High School in 1930.
She was very active in many community groups throughout her life, and was a political activist for various Democratic candidates in Boston.
In addition to working at Boston Municipal Court for over 10 years, Mary unselfishly raised her late daughter's children, after having raised her own.
Mary was the dear and devoted wife of the late Francis Culhane. Beloved mother of Bette Mackey and her husband Edward of Quincy, Frances David of Boston, Stephanie Culhane and her husband Edward Rezek of Boston, and the late Naomi Mulligan. Loving grandmother "Sithoo" of Francis and Edward Mulligan, Tara Baiona, Edward and Christopher Mackey, Heather Dockray, Erin David, and 12 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Betty Kalil of Quincy, and the late Monsour and James Salem, Zakie Maloof, Helen Philbrook, and Josephine Christenson. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Mary's Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday March 3rd in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston. Visiting hours were held at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home 8 Spring Street, West Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
