Salem: Lorraine A. (Bernier) Martel age 81, of Salem, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Richard W. Martel.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Suzanne (LeBlanc) Bernier. Lorraine attended Marion Court Secretarial School, but for many years devoted her time to the care of her family. She resumed her career by first working as a supervisor for Eastern Bank and later as a medical records secretary for Health and Education Services in Ipswich.
Lorraine was an active member of Ste. Anne Parish and volunteered much of her free time to fundraising for the parish through the parish’s many activities.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Donna M. Andrews and her husband Wayne, Jr. of Montclair, VA, Janice A. DeLorenzo and her husband John, Jr. of Salem, 2 sons, Don R. Martel and his wife Paula of Georgetown & James W. Martel of Las Vegas, NV, 2 sisters, Doris Dechene of Somersworth, NH & Lucille Masse of Georgetown. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Tara Healey, Jill Andrews-Demko, Wayne Andrews, III, Tami DeLorenzo, Emily, Amanda, Jay, Danielle & Jessica Martel, and 2 great-grandchildren, Cassandra & Trevor Healey, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Monday at 10:30 a.m. to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:30 am. Visiting hours: Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
