Margaret Hewett, 93, a resident of Methuen, MA. and a former longtime resident of Lawrence, MA, died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
She was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on March 29, 1915 to Edward E. & Elizabeth (Walsh) Hewett. She was educated in St. Mary's Grammar School and she was a graduate of St. Mary's High School class of 1932. She went on to receive her Bachelors Degree in Education from Lowell State College, in 1963. She also received her masters degree in education from Salem State College. She was a teacher for the Lawrence School System having taught at the Old Arlington School for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of Retired Teachers of Massachusetts, Hibernians Women's Auxiliary AOH Division #8, Holy Family Ladies Auxiliary, and the Friends of St. Mary's. She was a volunteer for over 20 years at the Mary Immaculate Restorative/Nursing Center in Lawrence, MA. She loved to travel extensively all around the world. She was also an avid reader.
She is survived by her niece and caregiver Patricia and her husband William Chaisson of Lawrence, MA. and Sister-in-law: Dolores Hewett of Atkinson, NH. As well as many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 10:00AM in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence, MA. A burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
