Obituary

Rene Demers 92, of Wayne Rd., died Wednesday at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence. He was the husband of the late Hermina (Harnois) Demers. Mr. Demers was born in Woonsocket a son of the late Antoine and Louisa (Huard) Demers. Mr. Demers was employed by the City of Woonsocket as a waste water sewer control operator for over ten years, before retiring in 1978. He had also worked in shipping and receiving for E. Brodeur & Sons for twenty four years. Mr. Demers was a World War II Air Force Veteran. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Carpenter-Bacon Post # 4 and St. Joseph Veterans, and a member of St. Joseph Sr. Citizen’s and AFSCME Retiree Program.

Mr. Demers is survived by a son, Roland Demers of Foxboro, MA, and a daughter, Estelle Richards of Woonsocket, three granddaughters, and two great grandsons. He was also the brother of the late Normand Demers, Mary Jane Pelletier, Cecile Demers and Sr. Antoinette Demers PM.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will be held in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-7 PM.
