Worcester—Vivian Balcom Schotte, 90, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Vivian was born in Worcester, MA, daughter of Betsey (McKinstry) and Ralph E. Balcom. She is survived by her son David Schotte and his wife, Virginia, of Sun City West, AZ and her daughter, Diana Schotte of Newton, MA; 3 grandsons, Andrew, Mark and his wife Steena, and Jeffrey Schotte; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Frederick A. Schotte; her daughter, Linda E. Schotte, and her sister Marcia Greenwood.
She was past Regent of Colonel Timothy Bigelow Chapter DAR, Worcester (1990-1993). Vivian resided at Briarwood Community for 23 years. While living there, she organized the crochet and spelling bee matches. She was a friend of Salem Covenant Church and an active member of United Congregational Church. As a life-time volunteer, she served many in her church and community. She was a bookkeeper at the American Antiquarian Society until her retirement in 1983. Vivian was a resident of the Shrewsbury Nursing Home, and her family would like to thank her caregivers for their special care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester MA 01605. Calling hours will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
