Obituary

WORCESTER-Ioanna (Sahinis) Makos, 82, of Worcester, died Wednesday, February 25th at home after a long illness. Her husband of 37 years, Konstantinos Makos died in 1988. She leaves her sister in law, Vasiliki Sahinis of Worcester; her niece, Alexandra Koukakis with whom she lived;her nephew Vasilios Sahinis of Worcester; and other nephews and nieces. Five brothers and her sister predeceased her.
She was born Douviani, Northern Epiros, Greece the daughter of Athanasios and Alexandra (Giokas) Sahinis; and came to the United States in 1954. Mrs. Makos had worked as a seamstress her whole life and it was her passion. She was well known for her work at Newton Sportswear and Sumiko’s Fashions. Mrs. Makos was a long time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Senior Citizens and the Epirotic Society.
The funeral is Friday, February 27th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, February 26th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
