Obituary

DRACUT - Richard J. "Ace" Bomal, 74, a long time Lowell and Dracut resident, died peacefully Tuesday evening, February 24, 2009, at his home with his family following a long and courageous battle with Myelofibrosis. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Buckjune) Bomal of Lowell with whom he would have celebrated 51 years of marriage this coming May.

Born in Lowell on May 14, 1934, he was a son of the late John Bomal and the late Jadwiga (Bagdanowicz) (Bomal) Pacula. He received his education in the Lowell school system attending St. Peters School, Butler Junior High and Lowell High School. He played semi-pro football for the Billerica Knights and South End Club and semi-pro basketball for the Holy Trinity All Stars. Ace also enjoyed playing softball and basketball and was an All Star in basketball for the Lowell Celtics and St. Anthony’s Five.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the Army of the United States.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bomal had been employed for thirty-five years by the Local 429 International Laborers Union in Lowell.

He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Lowell.

Mr. Bomal enjoyed vacationing in Aruba, Las Vegas and Atlantic City and he was considered a "High Roller" at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. Additionally he was an avid sports fan enjoying the Red Sox and Patriot games. He also enjoyed his beloved Basset Hounds, spending time in his vegetable garden and making puzzles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters Cheryl Ann Bomal and her fiancee Robert Jones with whom he shared his home, Karen Bomal Chicklis and Judy Hunter and her husband David all of Dracut; four grandchildren Holly and Kristi Hunter and Justin and Christopher Chicklis all of Dracut; a brother retired police officer Vincent Bomal of Westford; a brother-in-law Peter Buckjune of Pepperell; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Richard J. "Rick" Bomal Jr. and son-in-law of the late Peter and Mary "Gagoo" Buckjune.

Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Friday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday at 9 AM followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Michael's Church, Lowell.
