Obituary


FAIRHAVEN — Maude V. Hawes, born in Taunton, Ma., passed away at Our Lady's Haven on Sunday, February 22, 2009 in her 99th year.

Wife of the late William J. Hawes and daughter of the late Robert and Addie Johnston, Maude lived in New Bedford most of her life.

She is survived by a daughter Nancy (Bernard) Gauvin of Mattapoisett; 10 grandchildren Lisa (David) Griffith, Mark (Kathy) Gauvin, William J. (Pat) Hawes II, Colleen (Steve) Calise, Wendy (Mark) Decastro, Eric (Tina) Johnson, Karen Hawes, Joann (Jim) Price, Scott (Janet) Gauvin, Carl (Lori) Jobnson; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Ethel (Charles) Johnston of Vt.; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece Marjorie Ratner and family.

She was predeceased by a daughter Lorraine C. (Douglas) Johnson, a son William David (Ruth) Hawes; a sister Irene Tripp, 3 brothers Harrie, Robert and Charles Johnston; and a dear life long friend Doris Duarte.

To the staff of Our Lady's Haven, the family of Maude, in deep appreciation and gratitude, would like to extend a sincere thank you to an extraordinary professional and caring group of dedicated people. God Bless and thanks.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her name to the Memorial Fund of the First Congregational Church, Lund's Corner, N.B.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday, February 26 at 11 A.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., corner of Elm St., N.B. with visitation on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M. Burial is private in Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
