WORCESTER-Clarence W. “Larry” Hebert, 90 of Worcester, died Monday, February 23rd Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a brief illness. He is survived by two daughters, Elaine, wife of Edward Bruso of Auburn, and Janice, wife of James MacGillivray of North Oxford; his son, John T. Hebert of Wake Forrest, NC; five grandchildren, Brian, Julie, Paul, Jennifer and Shelby; four great grandchildren; and his sister Arlene Roy of Worcester. He also leaves his caretaker and friend Tricia MacAllister of Worcester. His wife Pauline died in 1985, and his brother Leonard Byron Hebert predeceased him.
Larry was born in Worcester, the son of John B. and Rose C. (Byron) Hebert. In 1936 he graduated from South High School, distinguishing himself as a New England Champion pole-vaulter. He served in the Air Force as a Master Sergeant during World War II. Larry owned and operated the former Colonial Warehouse and Distributing Company on Central Street before retiring in 1978. He was an avid golfer and charter member of Pleasant Valley Country Club; he was also active with the Worcester Lodge of Elks, the Froshion Club and various warehouse associations. Larry was a founding member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, serving as a lector for many years and will be remembered for his devotion to his faith. For 25 years he spent winters in West Palm Beach. He had a love of dogs and was often seen with one of his many poodles.
The funeral is Wednesday, February 25th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at Noon in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. A calling hour will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 in the funeral home the morning of the funeral.
