Mildred V. (Conefrey) Purificato 90 years, of Brockton died Sunday February 22, 2009 at Copley at Stoughton after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife for 46 years of the late James B. Purtificato. Mrs. Purificato was born in Brockton a daughter of the late James M. and Henrietta (O’Connell) Conefrey and remained a lifelong resident of the city. She was a 1936 graduate of Brockton High School and Morton Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Purificato retired from the Braemoor Nursing Home after 15 years of service and had also worked at the former Moore Hospital in Brockton. For sixteen years she and her husband were the co-owners of Jenks Oyster Bar on Belmont Street.
Mrs. Purificato was a former member of Ireland’s Own and the Twentieth Century Catholic Club. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had been a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick Church.
She is survived by two daughters Sheila Rhodes and her husband Richard of North Easton and Susan D’Arpino and her husband Louis of Duxbury. She was the loving grandmother of Kristin (Rhodes) Hassey and her husband Tom; James Rhodes and his wife Jennifer; Kimberly Smith and her husband James; Tracy Servaes and her husband Robert; and Christopher D’Arpino and his wife Sheila. She also leaves 13 great grandchildren, two sisters Lorraine Lemon of Whitman and Ellen Simpson of Brockton and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Esther Bryant, Mary Marozik and Janice Toomey.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 9 am. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church at 10 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 3-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, Mildred’s family requests that donations be made in her name to St. Patrick Church 335 Main Street Brockton, MA 02301.
