Obituary

Mary E. Callahan, 85, of Woburn, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 21st, 2009. She had been in declining health for the past year. She was born and raised in Woburn and had resided at the family homestead her entire life.
Born on September 10, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Mulhern) Callahan & William P. Callahan. Her twin sister Rita Callahan, preceded her in death in 2007.
Mary was a graduate of the class of 1941, St. Charles High School, Woburn. She took an interest in sports and was captain of the girl's basketball team during her senior year.
Following High School, she attended Malden Business School and upon graduation accepted a position with the B & M Railroad where she remained employed until her retirement in 1982. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Woburn Country Club Women's Golf League for many years. Mary was also active in St. Charles Alumni Association.
Mary enjoyed vacationing for many years in West Yarmouth, Cape Cod where she and her sister, Rita, owned a lovely home. They also traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Beloved nieces, nephews and friends many a time joined them on their trips and visited them on Cape Cod.
Mary is survived by her brother Charles P. Callahan of Woburn, sister-in-laws Florence of Billerica, Margaret of North Reading and Helen of Prince Edward Island. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her loving parents Elizabeth (Mulhern) Callahan & William P. Callahan, beloved sister Rita M. Callahan, and brothers Robert J. and William P. Callahan.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM Tuesday morning. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
It has been requested by the family that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Mary's name to VNA Care Network and Hospice, 5 Federal St. Danvers, MA 01930.
