Obituary

Her life was one of sharing and reaching out to others.

WORCESTER-Ruth M. (Jeffrey) Mulford, 96, a resident of South Yarmouth and Worcester, MA died Sunday, February 22nd at her son’s home in Worcester.

For 59 years she was the wife of Ralph K. Mulford Jr. who died in 1998.

Born, raised and educated in Rumson, New Jersey, Mrs. Mulford received her degree in Library Science with a minor in education from New Jersey College for Women (Douglas College). She finished her education at Rutgers, Columbia, and Boston Universities. She was a High School Librarian at Rumson High School in New Jersey and Brookline, Weston and Natick High Schools in Massachusetts. In 1978 she retired as Department Head of the Informational Materials Center of Natick High School. Upon retiring she and her husband moved from Natick to South Yarmouth. Her greatest enjoyments were family, friends, reading, gardening, travel, knitting and needlepoint.

She was a past member of the American Library Association, the League of Women Voters, the School Librarians Association and the Curriculum committee of the Dennis-Yarmouth School Committee.

A communicant of Saint Pius X Church in South Yarmouth, Mrs. Mulford was an active member of St. Pius X Women’s Guild and their mission group, the Retired Education Association of Massachusetts and the Garden Club of Yarmouth where in 1986 she established their lending library of gardening books.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph K. (Chip) Mulford III of Fairhaven, MA and William Jeffrey (Jeff) Mulford of Worcester, MA; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.


The funeral is Wednesday, February 25th at 9:00 AM from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Tuesday, February 24th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to St. Peter Central Catholic Elementary School, 865 Main Street, Worcester, Ma 01610 or St. Pius X School Library and Media Center, 5 Barbara Street, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
