Obituary

Martin “Ed” Conlon, 76, of Whitman, died Friday, February 20th at his home, after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband of 47 years to Dorothy A. (Roberts) Conlon. Born and brought up in Whitman, he was the son of the late Martin J. and Ella (Fox) Conlon. Ed has been a lifetime resident of Whitman, a graduate of Whitman High School class of 1950.He went into the Army in 1952 and served as a S. Sergeant with the United States Army’s 24th Infantry Division, during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Metal, the Presidential Unit Citation (R.O.K.) United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge from the Army in 1954, he owned and operated Conlons Service Station in Whitman for 15 years. He later worked for the Whitman D.P.W. and the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District. Ed was a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church and the Cunniff Pine Street Inn Group. He served as a call firefighter for the Town of Whitman for 37 years. He was also the past President and lifetime member of the Whitman Fire Department Association, a member of the V.F.W Post #697, American Legion, Post #22 and the Knights of Columbus Council # 347 of Whitman.

In addition to his wife Dottie of 47 years, he was the loving father of Rita M. Bradley of California, Mark E. Conlon and his wife Patty of Hanover and the late Michael Conlon, brother of William Conlon of New York and the late Joseph Conlon; grandfather of Elizabeth and Susanne Bradley, Zachary and Meghan Conlon, Nathan Conlon, his daughter-in-law Jennifer Conlon; also several nieces and nephews.

His services will be held on Thursday February 26th at 10:15 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00AM, in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman .Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery Whitman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 25th from 2-4 & 7-9.Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St, Brockton, MA 02301 or to the Cunniff Pine Street Inn Group, 14 Oakwood Ave, C/O Joan Walsh, Whitman, MA. 02382.
