Obituary

WORCESTER-Maria C. (McCallin) Stipek, 90, of Worcester, died Saturday, February 21st in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 56 years, Francis J. Stipek died in 2000. She leaves two sons, Francis J. Stipek, Jr. of Springfield and Paul A. Stipek of Fayetteville, NC; her daughter, Beatrice M. Stipek of North Weymouth; and her grandson, Francis Stipek. Her sister, Grace McCallin predeceased her.
She was born in Springfield, the daughter of George J. and Beatrice (Shea) McCallin. Mrs. Stipek attended Our Lady of the Elms College, was a graduate of Assumption College and received her Master’s Degree from Worcester State College. She was a teacher and guidance counselor for 21 years for the Worcester Public Schools including North High School, Flagg Street School, Woodland Prep School and Tatnuck Junior High School. Mrs. Stipek was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. She was a delegate for the Massachusetts Teachers’ Association. Mrs. Stipek had lived in a variety of large cities in the country including New Orleans, LA, Long Beach, CA, Syracuse, NY, Ashland and Springfield. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, Hawaii and the continental United States, Broadway Theatre and fine dining. Mrs. Stipek was an avid reader and was proud of her Irish Heritage. She especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with her family.

The funeral is Wednesday, February 25th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield. Calling hours are Tuesday, February 24th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, Mass cards may be offered or donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
