Obituary


Nicholas J. Petullo, 77 years old, a life long resident of Lowell, died unexpectedly Friday morning at his home.
Born in Lowell on January 3, 1932, he was a son of the late Gabriel and Madeline (Ruffo) Petullo and was educated in the Lowell schools.
Mr. Petullo served his Country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following his service time, he worked as a fork lift operator for the Prince Macaroni Co. in Lowell. He then worked as a machine operator for the Courier Citizen Corporation in both Lowell and No. Chelmsford. He retired from the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he worked in the Athletic Department. Better known to his friends as “Nick”, he was an avid bowler and bowled for both the Brunswick Men’s and the Independent Men’s Bowling Leagues in Lowell. Mr. Petullo was a member of the former St. Peter’s and Sacred Heart Churches. He currently was a member of Holy Family Parish in South Lowell.
He is survived by two sisters, Louise C. Schiripo of Dracut and Elvira M. (Olly) Sutcliffe of Lowell; a brother and sister in law, Anthony G. Petullo and his wife Lucy of Lowell; his lifelong companion, Mitzy Walton of Dracut and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. Petullo was also the brother of the late Angelo Petullo who died in 1972, Michael A. Petullo who died in 1997, Joseph V. Petullo who died in 1998 and Rita A. Petullo who died in 2000.
PETULLO- Relatives and friends may call on Monday Feb. 23, from 4 until 8 pm at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST. (Rte.38). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 10 am at the Holy Family Parish followed by burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA. 01701-4688. Arrangements are by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LOWELL.
