Obituary

DUDLEY – Janice E. “Jan” (Bougourd) Spiewakowski, 69, of Dalessandro Avenue, died Friday, Feb. 20, at home surrounded by her family.

She leaves her husband of 47 years, Walter F. Spiewakowski; 3 sons, Steven R. Spiewakowski and his wife Maria of Mansfield, Bruce D. Spiewakowski and his wife Pamela of Dudley, and Matthew F. Spiewakowski and his wife Carol of Carver; a brother, John Bougourd and his wife Joan of Athens, NY; 8 grandchildren, Erika, Daniel, Ethan, Evan, Abigail, Haley, Brett and Kylie; nieces and nephews.

She was born in Utica, NY and raised in New Haven, CT, the daughter of John and Jeanette (Maziarz) Bougourd. She moved to Charlton in 1957 and lived in Webster and Dudley since her marriage. She graduated from Hilltop High School in New Haven in 1957.

Mrs. Spiewakowski was an accounting clerk at the American Optical Company in Southbridge. Later, she was the secretary in the surgery section of Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster for 25 years before retiring in 2004.

Her family was her treasure and she was fiercely devoted to it.

She was a member of the Sturbridge Red Hat Society. She enjoyed golfing, crafts and ceramics, and camping. She was a fan of the New England Patriots and a staunch supporter of the New York Yankees. Her family was her treasure.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 26, in the First Congregational Church of Dudley, 135 Center Road. Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 25, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster. The family suggests donations in her name be made to either Children’s Hospital Neurology Department, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115, or to VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
