WEBSTER - Carol (Costa) Grundel, 68, died Friday, February 20, in Hubbard Regional Hospital after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 46 years, Robert A. Grundel, Jr.; 2 sons, Robert A. Grundel, III and his wife Sandra of Webster, and Michael L. Grundel of Milford; a daughter, Tracy D. Ward and her husband John of Webster; her mother, Carmela (Gueli) Costa of Port Jefferson Station, NY; 6 brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Nicholas, Carmine, Andrew and Robert Costa; 4 sisters, Dolly Costa, Norma Anselmo, Rosemary Sells and Deborah McKew; 6 grandchildren, Melinda M. Cruz-Rios, whom she raised as a daughter, Sarah, Danielle, Joseph, Cheyenne and Daniel; 2 great granddaughters, Xio-Marie and Phoenix; many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jazlyn P. M. Grundel-Valentin and by a sister, Anna Tortorici.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Leonard Costa. She lived in West Babylon, NY, East Northport, NY and then to Mount Sinai, NY when she married. She moved to Webster in 1985. She graduated from Northport High School in 1958.
Mrs. Grundel was a bookkeeper at Chris Chevrolet and at Webster-Dudley Lincoln Mercury, both in Dudley, and also for her husband’s business. She retired in 2005.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Basilica, once serving on the parish council and on many committees. She was a past president of the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club, and a past member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, the Sacred Heart Society and the Saint Anne Society.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, February 24, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, February 23, in the funeral home.
