Obituary

ROCKPORT: Charles L. DeMeule, 93, of 98 South Street died early Friday morning, February 20, 2009 following a brief illness. He was the husband of Janet (LeBoeuf) DeMeule.
Born in Salem on January 5, 1916, he was the son of the late Albert and Blanche (Maisoneuve) DeMeule. He was a graduate of Salem High School and Bentley College.
A U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he was stationed at Ten Pound Island in 1943. He was also a former member of the Edward Peterson, Post #98, American Legion of Rockport.
Mr. DeMeule was executive vice president and president of the Rockport National Bank from 1968 until his retirement in 1978. Following his retirement from the bank, he and his family owned and operated Oleana By the Sea Restaurant in Rockport for ten years. Charlie loved the ocean, sailing, sunbathing and summers spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of sixty-six years, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, C. Stephen DeMeule of Rockport, Richard and Linda R. (Daley) DeMeule of Gloucester, three grandchildren, Rachel A. DeMeule of Portland, ME, Alison J. DeMeule and Andrew R. DeMeule both of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Estelle Allen.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Den Mar Nursing & Rehabilitation Home, “Resident Activity Fund”, 44 South St., Rockport, MA 01966. Interment will be held privately.
