Obituary

William D. Crandall Jr., age 67, of New London Turnpike, North Stonington, passed away at Thursday Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Westerly, RI on February 7, 1942 the son of William D. and Hazel (Champlin) Crandall. After receiving his education, he served in the US Army from 1959-1962.

A well known marine engine mechanic, he owned and operated Marine Engine Services in North Stonington for over 30 years, where he designed system installations, rebuilt and installed yacht propulsion systems, as well as electrical, alarm, and hydraulic systems. He also rebuilt gas and diesel engines for domestic and imported automobiles, including sports cars. In later years, he had also been employed at Noank Shipyard.

Mr. Crandall was a member of the North Stonington Grange and served on the North Stonington Fair Committee for many years. An accomplished Blacksmith, he started and ran the Blacksmith Exhibit at the fair for several years.

His family includes his wife, Patricia Dean Tullie (daughter of James F. and Mildred E. Tullie) whom he married in 1973; his mother, Hazel Crandall of Ashaway; two daughters, Leah P. Crandall and Cassandra D. Crandall;his siblings, Terry Crandall of Hopkinton, RI and Mary Burton of Westerly. He was predecased by a son, William D. Crandall III.

His family will gather privately. There are no visiting hours.
