Obituary

WORCESTER___Wilfrid Deschenes, Sr., 99, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 in Worcester at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, with whom he resided.

He was born in Lowell on October 24, 1909. He is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Lamoureux, wife of Normand Lamoureux of Worcester and by his son, Wilfrid Deschenes Jr. of Lowell, husband of Blanche Deschenes. He was predeceased in 2003 by his wife of nearly 72 years, Sybille, and in 2005 by 2 great-grandchildren. He leaves 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Deschenes lived most of his life in Lowell, having moved to Worcester in 2003. He worked for 32 years as a machinist for General Electric in West Lynn and Wilmington before retiring in 1973. He was an avid card player, still playing his favorite game, cribbage, until the very end of his life. In his later years he also enjoyed vacationing in Fort Lauderdale.

Calling hours will be held in the DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 20 and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM Saturday, February 21. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 21 in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in East Chelmsford. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Deschenes to Care Alternatives, 181 Cedar Hill Road, Marlborough, MA 01752.
