Obituary

Anna (DiSpena) Romano, of Boston’s North End, died Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 91.

Mrs. Romano was born in Italy, the daughter of the late Antonio and the late Maria (Cristiano) DiSpena. In 1954 she came with her family to the United States and lived in the West End before settling in the North End 51 years ago. She was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union among other places worked at Forecaster Clothing until her retirement. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed the company of her family and friends.

She was the beloved wife of the late Luigi Romano. She was a devoted mother to Antonio Romano of Boston’s North End, Natalie Levato and her husband Frank, Jean Mancini and her husband Emidio all of Somerville, Julia Sanfilippo and her late husband Anthony of Everett, the late Caterina Rania and her late husband Frank. She is lovingly survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Rosaria, Giuseppe, Pasqualina and Salvatore DiSpena.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Hanover St., Boston, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Community Mausoleum, Everett.
