Obituary

Brigadier Ruth E. (Carleton) Banta SA, 90, of Franklin, died Sunday February 15, 2009 at Sunbridge Care Center in Milford, following a long illness. She was the wife of Brigadier Harold G. Banta, SA.
Born in New Haven, CT., October 15, 1918 a daughter of the late Robert W. and Jennie (Hande) Carleton, she was raised and educated in West Haven, Connecticut and had lived in Franklin since 1982.
Mrs. Banta was a graduate of the Salvation Army School in 1940, and for more than 41 years, until her retirement worked as a clergy member for the Salvation Army.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, travel and crossword puzzles.
Surviving in addition to her husband of over 65 years is a son H. George Banta of Ledyard, CT., four daughters Marilyn Griffin of Franklin, Nancy Sloan of Delaware, Joan Bowser of Michigan, Janet Lyons of Louisiana, a sister Gladys Laniewski of New York, 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She is also the sister of the late Robert Carleton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Friday at 1PM in the Salvation Army Corps 29 Congress St. Milford.
Private interment will take place in the Salvation Army lot in Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston.
There are no public calling hours.
