Obituary

Carpenter, William G. Retired Captain, Boston Fire Dept, Feb 14, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (Dowling) Carpenter who passed away on Feb 11, three days before her husband. Dear father of William Carpenter of Pembroke and Betty-Jean Triner and her husband Don of Middleboro. Loving Pop of Donald, Debbie, Amy, Kristin, Will, Scott and Pam. Also survived by 15 loving great grandchildren. Brother of Ruth MacDonald of Mansfield and the late Althea McKenzie. William was born in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School. He and Ruth lived in Dorchester before moving to Marshfield in 1966.
William held many positions with the BFD before his retirement in 1973 after 30 years of service. He was a US Navy Veteran, WW II, a licensed Electrician, Member of the Boston Council of Boy Scouts, Associate member Fire Protection Engineers Society, Fire Marshals of No. America, International Association Firefighters AFL-CIO, Past President Firefighters Square Club of Mass, Past President St George Assoc. Eastern Mass Firefighters and Past President and Director of the Canopy Club of MA. He was also an Honorary Life Member of several Masonic Orders, and a member of The First Congregational Church of Marshfield.
A graveside service for William and Ruth will be held on Friday Feb 20, at 11:30 am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
