FALL RIVER – Edward (Ted) Wade Devlin, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Adams House Nursing Home in Fall River. He was the widower of Louise Suffern Devlin, his beloved wife.
Born in Ottawa, Canada, he was the son of the late W.F.C. (Ted) and Edith (Wade) Devlin.
Ted worked as a radio announcer, producer, writer, information officer and editor for CBC Radio, Radio Canada International, The Canadian Council for International Cooperation, Novalis Publishing Company, and The Economics Branch of Agriculture Canada. Upon his retirement in 1976, he and Louise moved to her family home in Westport Point, Ma. where for several years he edited the Westport River Watershed Alliance’s environmental newspaper, “River News”. He and his wife were both active members of the Westport Historical Society and the Westport Art Group, as well as attendees of St. Andrew’s-by-the-sea church in Little Compton, RI.
Survivors include step-sons, Robert S. Hudson and his wife Hahn, James E. Hudson and his wife Janice; step-son-in-law, Mike Ahearn; step-grandchildren, Sarah, Peter and Matthew Lowe, Timothy, Rebecca, Zachary, Adam Hudson and his wife Heather, Suki Hudson Cain and her husband Rob; and four step-great-grandchildren. Also by his nieces, Penny Matheson and Susan Devlin; nephew, Brian Devlin and his wife Elizabeth; niece-in-law, Jeanne Devlin; great-nieces, Patricia and Sheila Devlin, Jane Devlin Carney and her husband Mike, Heidi Kempel and her husband Mike; great-nephews, Mike Matheson, Ian Matheson and his wife Jennifer.
He was the brother of the late Robert Devlin, uncle to the late Michael Devlin and step-father to the late Elizabeth Ahearn.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
