WORCESTER-Gertrude E. (Sampson) Brown, 90, of Worcester, died Sunday, February 15th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence. Her husband of 56 years, Arthur T. Brown, died in 2007. She leaves a sister, Doris Nowokunski of Shirley; a sister-in-law, Shirley E. (Badger) Sampson of Brooksville, FL; and several nephews and nieces. Her brother, H. Jack Sampson, predeceased her.
She was born in Shirley, the daughter of Henry W. Sampson, Sr. and Annie N. (Corrigan) Sampson and graduated from Ayer High School in 1937 and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Mrs. Brown worked at Worcester City Hospital for 37 years, retiring as head surgical nurse in 1979. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and the Worcester City Hospital Nurses Alumni. The family would like to thank the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center and the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence for their kindness and compassion while Gert was in their care.
The funeral is Wednesday, February 18th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour is from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Wednesday in the funeral home.
