Obituary

McGann of Plymouth formerly from Hartford, Elizabeth “Betty” 65, at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA Feb. 9. Betty and her husband John were active for 2 years in Marriage Encounter giving presentations to other couples in the program. Betty served on the St Bridget PTA and Bingo Committee. She was the parish secretary for St Columba Church in Columbia, CT. Volunteered for many church activities including paint parties, decorating the parish center at St. Patrick’s Cathedral for the 75th anniversary, chaperoning youth dances, setting up and cleaning up after church dinners and dances. She enjoyed gardening, cooking dancing and reading. Betty was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 37. The disease progressed rapidly . She moved to Plymouth, MA 4 years ago and although a quadriplegic, she wanted to be around people so she went to local restaurants with her husband and particularly liked the Plymouth waterfront in the summertime. She leaves her husband John McGann of Plymouth, their son Sean and his wife Lucy of OR, and their daughter Maureen McGann of MA, and their son Brian of MA. She also leaves a grandchild Logan, and 2 sisters Patricia Bailey of ME and Irene of CT. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday February 14 at St. Thecla’s Church 145 Washington St. Pembroke, MA at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central NE Chapter, PO Box 845945, Boston, MA 02284-5945. Burial will be private.
