Robert “Smitty” Smith, 53, of Londonderry, NH and Greensboro, NC, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. He was a 7th generation resident of Londonderry and the son of the late Ernest W. and Ruth Burroughs Smith. Smitty worked as a project superintendent, managing site development and building construction for R.L. Spencer, Inc., a construction management firm. For many years Smitty was a member of (and Chairman for) the Londonderry Planning Board. He loved the Red Sox, baseball, playing pool and coaching his kids in sports. He also enjoyed music, the outdoors, riding his Harley and chasing the sun, especially to Key West.
He is survived by four children, Ryan, April, Ami and Zachary Smith, all of Londonderry, his fiancé, Amy Jacobson of Greensboro, NC, a sister, Jane Vickery of Pembroke, NH, his former wife, Kathleen Morin Smith of Londonderry, and a niece, nephew, cousins and extended family.
Visiting hours were held Sunday February 15, 2009 from 2pm until 4pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry with a funeral service yjsy esd held at 3:00pm in the funeral home. Cremation followed. The burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry in the spring.
