Jean N. Dillon, 85, died peacefully at home in Winchester on Feb. 11th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Gerald and Ellen (Burns) Nortz. Jean was a 1945 Graduate of Syracuse University where she was the President of Theta Phi Alpha and Captain of the Rifle Team. After marrying her husband George Dillon, the couple moved to Cazenovia, NY where she taught in the local school system for a number of years before starting her family. In 1959 the family relocated to Winchester. In Winchester, Jean continued her teaching career at Winchester High as a Home Economics teacher. Mrs. Dillon spent her time investing in the betterment of her community as a member of the En Ka Society, Waterfield Investors, Meals on Wheels, the Winchester Scholarship Foundation and St. Mary’s Parish. At St. Mary’s, she was associated with the Mr. And Mrs. Club and the Teams of Our Lady. She was also a member of the Winchester Boat Club. She was the beloved wife of George E. Dillon, and the loving mother of Kathleen Cook of Manchester, NH, Thomas of Rocky Hill,CT., Sara Knapp of Andover, James of Winchester, Janice Flowers of Somerset, OH, Mary Zamierowski of Winchester, Ellen Dillon of NY, NY and Amy Joyall of Andover. Jean was also the dear sister of Thomas Nortz and Sally Lynch both of Lowville, NY and is further survived by 13 grandchildren. Her funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Mon. Feb. 16th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sun. from 3-7PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
