John F. Shea, 77

John F. Shea, 77, of Norton formerly of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday February 11, 2009 at the Highgate Manor in Dedham. He was the beloved husband of Mary K. (Leddy) Shea whom he married on July 26, 1969.
Born in Cambridge, MA on November 11, 1931 he was a son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Verrist) Shea
John grew up in Cambridge, was educated in Cambridge public schools and was a graduate of Ringe High School also in Cambridge. On May 2, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on April 26, 1955 with the rank of EM2.
Mr. Shea had been employed at the Polaroid Corporation in Norwood where he worked for 17 years before retiring.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, John could be best described as a very sociable and caring man. Those who met or spoke with him, instantly knew they had made a good friend for life. After living in Cambridge for many years he and his family had made there home in Norton for the past 37 years.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 39 years he is survived by his loving and devoted daughter Kellie A. Johnson and her husband Eric of Worcester, his cherished granddaughter Caetlin Johnson of Worcester. He was the brother of Edward Shea of Stoughton, Mary McCann of East Falmouth, Robert Shea of Arlington, Patricia Cutroni of Arlington, D. Maureen Couture of Naples, Florida and Irene Shea of Lebanon, New Hampshire, also survived by many nieces, nephews and brother and sister in laws.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday February 17th at 8:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at 11:15 A.M. in The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday February 16th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Lung Association 25 Spring St. Walpole, MA 02081.
