DRACUT - James C. Spanos Jr. J.D., 47, a long time Dracut resident, died February 6, 2009 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. With strength and perseverance he fought a courageous 6 year battle with cancer to which he succumbed Friday evening.
Born in Manchester, NH on January 20, 1962, he was a son of the late James C. and Mary (Lazous) Spanos. He was a graduate of Philips Academy in Andover. He went on to earn his B.A. from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. Continuing his education he studied at New York University in New York, NY and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in Boston and was a Summer Author of the Law Review and was published in 1989.
Attorney Spanos was employed as an Associate for 18 years by the Papanickolas Law Offices in Peabody. Prior to that he worked as a Law Clerk for Lubin and Meyer P.C. in Boston and as a Summer Associate for Mulvey and Noucas P.A. in Portsmouth, NH. Earlier in his career he had been employed by Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, NY and Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in Albany, NY.
James was a member of the Massachusetts and American Bar Associations; the Boston Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
In his free time he was an avid skier and was a member and current President of the Melrose Hickory Hawks Ski Club in Glenn, NH. He also cherished time spent in the company of his family, especially his cousins, at their summer home in Hampton, NH.
Surviving him are a sister and brother-in-law Andrea and Gary Allison of Nashua, NH; a brother and sister-in-law Christopher J. and Michelle Spanos of Lowell; two nieces Sarah Allison and Samantha Spanos; one nephew Brandon Spanos; three aunts Effie Stylianos of Nashua, NH, Sophie Chakos of Long Island, NY and Eva Denopoulos of Dracut; and many cousins and dear friends.
Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Friday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday at 9 AM followed by his Funeral Service at 10 AM in Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Lowell. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
