Obituary

LEICESTER__ Simon Gallien, 92, of Leicester, died Monday, February 9, 2009 in Saint Francis Home, 101 Plantation St., Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Julia (Chiras) Gallien, a daughter, Gloria Kochinskas of Dudley; three grandsons, nieces and nephews including Barbara Ahern and her husband, John of Paxton; Anthony Planchunas and his wife, Irene of Worcester; Nancy Macrina and her husband, David of Alabama; Diane Mack of Illinois and William Chiras, of Worcester, as well as, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was born in Northbridge, a son of Simon and Exilda M.(Perron) Gallien.

Mr. Gallien was a machinist for many years at Owens-Illinois Co., before retiring. He was a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II receiving the American and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medals. He attended Northbridge High School. He was a former member of Our Lady of Vilna Church, Worcester. Simon was also a former member of the Worcester Surfcasters Club, the Knights of Lithuania, Council 116 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed working outside and gardening, as well as trips to Cape Cod and fishing.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 12, from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be in the funeral home, Thursday, February 12 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, Ma., 02472
