Obituary

DRACUT - George E. Cordeau, age 90, a longtime Dracut resident, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died Tuesday February 10th at Lowell General Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth T. (Judge) Cordeau, who died in 1982.

He was born in Lowell on November 27, 1918, and was a son of the late Charles and Matilda (Morrison) Cordeau. He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of St. Louis Grammar School, and Lowell High School, class of 1936. While in high school, he played the saxophone in the school's band, and he continued to play for the rest of his life. He also received a Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry from Lowell Textile College in 1941, where he was the co-captain of the school's football team.

Mr. Cordeau served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 40 years as a textile chemist by Faulkner Mills in Billerica. He then went on to work as a consultant for W.L. Packard in Ashland, NH.

Mr. Cordeau greatest joy was his family and spending time with them He enjoyed coaching his grandchildren in the St. Michael School Little League. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling to many places such as Hilton Head, SC, although the happiest times of his life were his trips to Walt Disney World.

Being an avid musician, he was a member of several bands throughout his life, including the Lowell High School Alumni Band, where he was the oldest member, the Polish American Band, the Chelmsford Community Band, and the Come Back Kids.

He was a lifelong member of St. Michael Church in Lowell, and was a member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colors.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Thelma E. and Leo P. Frechette of Dracut; four grandchildren, Barry Frechette and his wife Carolyn of Billerica, Terrence Frechette and his wife Roberta of Pepperrell, Eileen Shank and her husband Matthew of Dracut, and Emily Vincent and her husband Adam of Billerica; seven great grandchildren, Nicholas Frechette, Jennifer Frechette, Hannah Frechette, Cameron Frechette, Graham Shank, Spencer Shank, and Elizabeth Shank; a sister Thelma (Cote) Bedard of Hollis, NH; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Raymond Cordeau, and the brother-in-law of the late Lucille Cordeau, Edward Cote, and Edward Bedard.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 AM at St. Michael Church in Lowell. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lowell.
