TEWKSBURY - Lawrence P. Borden, age 57, died Monday, February 9, at his Tewksbury home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous 17 year health battle ending with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Cuddy-Borden, with whom he had celebrated a 22rd wedding anniversary this past April 5th.
He was born in Chelsea, March 26, 1951, a son of the late Robert and Angela (Matello) Borden, and graduated from Chelsea High School. During the Vietnam War, he served stateside in the U.S. Army.
He had resided in Tewksbury since 1993, an was described as an original "Mr. Mom" stay at home parent. Previously he had worked as a machinist in the semi-conductor industry. He enjoyed firearms shooting contests, skiing, and long rides on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was a former member of the Tewksbury Rod and Gun Club, the Mystic Valley Gun Club, and the National Rifle Association. Besides his wife, he leaves four children, Jessica L. Borden-Elfner and her husband Michel of Somersworth, NH, Daniel R. Borden and his wife Jillian (Doyle) of Dedham, Robert L. Borden and Christopher W. Borden both of Tewksbury; one grandson, Jack; a brother, Dennis Borden and his wife Virginia of Chelsea; and several in-laws and nieces and nephews.
He was also husband of the late Patricia (Joyce) Borden.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 12, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Memorials to the Mayo Clinic, Charity Transplant Fund, 4500 San Pablo Rd., Jacksonville,FL 32224, will be appreciated.
