DRACUT - Albert M. Smigelski, 84, a lifelong resident of Dracut, died Sunday, February 8th at Radius Northwood Nursing Home in Lowell. He was the beloved husband of Virginia R. (Schneider) Smigelski, to whom he was married for 62 years. After marrying, he and his wife built the home that they lived in for the remainder of their years together.
He was born in Dracut on December 17, 1924, and was a son of the late Charles and Marcella (Zenchowski) Smigelski. He received his early education in Dracut schools and attended Lowell Vocational School.
Mr. Smigelski served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as an electrician for General Electric in Lynn.
In his free time he enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard, building things, and puttering around the house.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol Brandenburg and her husband Wayne of Fayetteville, NC, and Deborah Babineau and her husband Greg of Shelburne Falls, MA; a son-in-law Ed Dart of western MA, seven grandchildren Robert Brandenburg of Rock Hill, SC, Kimberly Brandenburg of Raleigh, NC, Justine Babineau of Greenfield, MA, Michael Babineau of Greenfield, MA, Diane Johnston and her husband Brian of Colrain, MA, Benjamin Dart of Sunderland , MA, and Charles Dart of Greenfield, MA; a great granddaughter Avery Johnston; a brother Frank Smigelski and his wife Doris of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Ann Dart, who died in 1997, and the brother of the late Charles Smigelski, and Anna Buja.
It being his wishes calling hours have been omitted. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Saints Foundation Dialysis Fund, 155 Merrimack St., Lowell, MA 01852, or to the charity of one's choice.
