Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Bosworth, 56, of Fairhaven passed away February 8, 2009 unexpectedly at home.
He was the beloved husband and best friend of Joan M. (Spillane) Saucier-Bosworth.

Born in New Bedford, the son of Frank Bosworth of Fairhaven and the late Barbara (Gilston) Bosworth, he lived in Fairhaven most of his life.
He was formerly employed as a third class steam engineer at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Technical High School for over 30 years until retiring in 2008. Bob was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational School, class of 1971.
He was a member of George H. Tabor Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Adinorum Royal Arch Chapter, New Bedford Council of Royal and Select Master Masons, the Sutton Commandery #16 of the Knights Templar and the Scottish Rite Valley of Southeastern Massachusetts. He was also a member of the North Fairhaven Improvement Association of which he was chairman of the annual car show and fun fair. He belonged to the Down Shifters Car Club of Massachusetts.
Bob loved the Town of Fairhaven and volunteered numerous hours to many community causes in Fairhaven including the Horribles Parade and the Veteran's Day Parade. He served the town of Fairhaven as an elected member of the Board of Public Works from 2002 to 2009 and served as its chairman from 2004 to 2009. He was involved in the planning and was instrumental in the completion of many projects such as the Little Bay Bike Path, the Sconticut Neck Sewer Collection System, and the West Island Sewer Treatment Plant and Collection System. He was a active town meeting member. Bob was involved with the planning and implementation of the Mattapoisett River Valley District and served on the committee as well. This Regional Water Treatment Plant that now serves Fairhaven, Mattapoisett and Marion.
His other passions in life were his collection of old Packard cars of which he pridefully owned 2, and Make A Wish Foundation, Inc. for which he held car cruises to raise money for children with life threatening illnesses. He was a former disc jockey and talk show host for W.A.L.E. Radio Station in Fall River.

Bob was known for his endless trivia and historical knowledge of the Fairhaven area. He was a loving husband, dedicated friend to many and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife; his father; a step-son, Ryan Saucier of New Bedford; 3 step-daughters, Joy Saucier of New Bedford, Désirée Saucier and Felicity Saucier, both of Fairhaven; 4 brothers, William Bosworth of Cape Cod, David Bosworth of New Bedford, Stephen Bosworth of Fairhaven and Mark Bosworth of Mattapoisett; 2 sisters, Janet Borges of Dartmouth and Ellen Kirwin of South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 12th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday, February 11th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the G.H.
